Question: Spreading his seed vs!. being a father!?
We've all heard the cliche about men being genetically pre-disposed to "spreading their seed!." However, families have also existed for as long as we have been around!.

So, my question is: If men are supposedly meant to spread their seed, how did families form in the past and was there any form or sense of child-rearing!? If so, were they much different than families or practices today!? Pre-civilization, if there was no law or legally binding contract, what motivated a man to stick around long enough to raise a child!? Or did they just impregnate and wander off!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think family bonds formed due to many reasons!. 1!. Sex - early man probably was not thinking of impregnating anyone -- or even realized that the act created a child!. He just wanted sex and how better to have access to sex than to pair up with a mate!? 2!. Then there was the realization that several people could survive more easily than someone alone!. You could share all the of the hunting tasks, gathering, child-rearing, etc!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Children are the oldest form of social security!. So even while the man goes around spreading his seed (can it be a cliche when it is a universal truth!?) he also wants a bunch of kids to support him in his old age!.

Marriage is mostly about who owns the kids, the point behind it is to establish a legal right of one man to the kids, even if any number could have been their fathers!. Until they ended child labor, kids were an asset!. Till they established a stable economy and pensions based on capital, kids were the only retirement plan you had!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In the past it wasn't uncommon at all for men to have more than one wife!. In many many ancient cultures (Even in the Bible, Quran and numerous other holy texts) polygamy wasn't illegal!. Only in our more modern societies have we frowned upon men procreating with more than one woman!. That being said men still are pre disposed to spreading their seed!. Families thousands of years ago were much much different!. Women would raise the children as men would fight wars!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
