Moreover, although it is not quite the same, European Kings sometimes had concubines, especially early on, and their role is, sexually, at least, the same as a wife!. The Celts, it seems, did not practice open polygamy, but had term marriages, making serial monogamy frequent, and sexual fidelity withing a Celtic marriage seems to have been not very important, in terms of (at least) the male partner fooling around!.
