Question: Why was Galileo put on trial!?
I know that he believed Copernicus' idea that the planets (or Earth at least) revolved around the sun!. I've heard that this was contrary to the belief of the Church at the time, which believed that the Earth was at the center!.

Was that the most important reason the charge of heresy was brought against him, or were their others!? Could you guide me to a site, journal, or book that would be helpful, other than "The Galileo Affair" by Finocchiaro!?

Thank you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Verse is the first chapter of the first part of Genesis, where it says that God made the Earth !.!.!. that's totally complicated though!.
Anyway, Galileo was put on trial for being a radical scientist of his time!. He created a telescope to look at the moons of Jupiter, and tracked stars, and found that he could prove what had only before be considered theory about how the universe worked due to the rotation of moons, and by charting the stars how the Earth's placement changed but the sun did not!.
There's actually a museum in Florence, Italy (the Galileo Museum) that has all the information, if you want to yahoo search it (I believe that it's translated from Italian too last I looked, so you should be okay on that)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

he was put on trial because of what he believed about the sun - the church(the Roman Catholic Church) thought that God had put the Earth - thus humans - in the center of the universe, but he believed that we went around the sun!. They thought it was heresy because he was going against what the church said!. I don't think there was actually a verse!. They just made it up!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
