Well, it becomes a matter of opinion to an extent!. Initially, the Chernobyl Disaster did not kill many people with its blast!. However, it released around 400 times as much radiation as the Hiroshima bomb!. One report has estimated total deaths from Chernobyl as 4,000, all but a few resulting from fallout rather than the explosion!.

In contrast, while the Hiroshima bomb released less radioactive contamination, it killed thousands more people because it occurred in a major population center and had a powerful initial blast!. There are many estimates, and here's one I'll go with: The initial blast in Hiroshima killed around 80,000 people!. The estimates I trust for additional deaths from fallout add another 100,000 (some put that much lower and some put it higher)!. So my estimate of total Hiroshima deaths is 180,000!.

Disaster-wise, it's easy to argue which had the worse effect on human life!. Maybe the question should be: Which is more likely to happen today, and how bad would it be!?

To give you something to ponder in order to answer the dangerous question: if you would have been anywhere near the Chernobyl Disaster, you likely would have died from cancer or other fallout-related illness!. If you were in Hiroshima near the epicenter, you would have stood little chance, and would have been likely to suffer from the fallout in outlying areas of the city!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

both are equally disastrous!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
