The PRC and USSR never formally ended WW2 with Japan!. The Soviets for the obvious reasons of the occupied Japanese islands!. In Germany WW2 did not finally end until 1994 when the last Soviet troops left under the provisions of with "Treaty on the settlement with respect to Germany!. Although the Western powers had concluded a formal treaty with West Germany in 1948/9ish!. Finland, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania were technically at war until the ratification of the Paris Peace Conference in 1947!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Soviet Union abolished Soviet–Japanese Neutrality Pact and launched war against Japan on August 8, 1945!. Although Japan surrendered on August 15, 1945, the Soviet Union continued the invasion into Japan and the battles did not cease until September 2!. Since the Soviet Union denied the Treaty of San Francisco and there have not been any other peace treaty signed between Japan and the Soviet Union, the war is still going on!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Russia still occupies a group of Japanese islands (Kuril, if memory serves) that Japan wants back!. That may have got in the way of the formalities!.

Incidentally, the Crimean war began in 1854, and the final peace treaty was not signed until 1966!.
