Question: Do you think there would be much interest in the kind of “blood sports” that occurred in the Roman Colosseum!?
For example, would there be much of a market, say, for cage fighting, where fighters actually fight to the death!? Would public executions and crucifixions and beheadings draw a crowd today!? Could an enterprising entrepreneur make money by staging these kind of events on some kind of “pay for view” basis!? Or perhaps you think we are much more “civilized” today!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think civilization really has anything to do with it!. At an instinctual level humans are drawn to violence just like every other predatory species!. That obviously isn't true for everyone, but many people like to see people beat the heck out of each other!. The UFC has become widely popular in recent years, and contact sports have always drawn crowds!. Yes, I'm sure if death matches were allowed in the US today they would be popular!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think people would definitely pay for it, but it would never happen even if it was somehow legalized!. The UFC and other MMA organizations are very cautious about liability issues, which is why there are so many more rules today than there were originally!. Can you imagine the lawsuits over fights to the death!?

We may be more "civilized" today, but at least Rome wasn't run by lawyers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
