The difference is the Native Americans fought back!. The Africans were captured and sold by other Africans to the Americans(and other nations)!. The Africans were held down, probably part of what broke their spirit was that they couldn't return home as easily as the Native Americans!. To be honest though I don't know why people think the Blacks deserve so much more then Native Americans who had their land stolen from them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The truth is, history is all about perspective!. Native Americans, or Indians, were in this country before the Europeans, and the African slaves they brought with them!. Most of the time, instead of keeping them as slaves, they (the Indians) were killed off or forced to move to another location!. Most people in this country associate slavery with individuals of African descent!. It isn't a well known fact, but Muslims kept Christian (white) slaves in the area known as the Barbary Coast, so slavery knows no ethnic boundaries!. The reason there is so much historical prominence regarding African American slaves is the effect it had on our country (think Civil War)!. It should be noted that most Americans, in the time of slavery, were too poor to own slaves!. Only about 8% of the population were actual slave owners!. One of the aspects of slavery that is rarely talked about is how the slaves were sold into servitude!. Most African and Indian slaves were sold to slave merchants by opposing tribes who had taken them as prisoners!. I'm not sure why such a "big deal" is made about African slavery in this country, as opposed to other races!. It could be that African Americans have a larger voice in media and culture, and can keep focus on the tragic history of their ancestors!. It should be the consensus of all parties that slavery was, and is, a tragic mark in human history!. Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

!.!.!.or the Moors,or the Arabs,or the conquered of ANY land!. It's not the colour-the Romans took slaves of ANY conquered land and enslaved them!. It's historically the way to ensure a profit from a beaten foe-enslave them!. African tribes did it to one-another,multi-millionaires in the west pay their employees minimum wage it's all a form of slavery!. The african slaves and their descendants were fortunate enough to have passionate, articulate speakers and orators in their fore-ranks,just as the whole issue of slavery became a moral argument with open debate!. SO,just lucky timing,I guess!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good question!. I have wondered the same thing!. It's the larger scale, I think!. While both were enslaved, the Native Americans were far, far fewer in number than Africans!.
There's also the other angle/aspect to American history!. Native populations were responsible for "wars"!.!.!.it was therefor justifiable!.
Rots, completely, but its true as far as history records it!. While the descendants of slaves fought for their rights, the Native American was still being denied his!. For a "Sovereign Nation", which all the societies of Native Americans are, living within the boundaries of another nation, the United States, they are still suffering prejudices, stereotyping, racial discrimination, etc!.!.!.!.tell me, where are their political special interest groups!? Where is their publicity, major law enactments!?
Can't wait to see the answers you get!.!.!.it's going to be interesting!Www@QuestionHome@Com

To the best of my perhaps limited knowledge, American Natives (Indians) were never used as slaves by white people!. They were captured and used as slaves by other tribes as part of the tribal warfare that seems to be part of all primitive societies, but there was never the wholesale movement of Indian slaves the way there was the capturing of people by Africans in African, sale of them to Arabs and others who brought them to the coast where they were sold and shipped to the States for sale and distribution by an organized system!. Somewhat of an issue has been made about the cruel treatment of American Indians ("Native Americans") in the past, but African-Americans have garnered more attention because of a few things, I think!. For one thing, I'm pretty sure that the black population in the U!.S!. is much greater than that of American Indians, and perhaps more African-Americans were enslaved than Indians!.
also, blacks had the civil rights movement in the '60s, and to my knowledge, Indians didn't have something like that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because there are many more african-americans than native-americans,
discrimination against aa's continues long after slavery ended (or as Martin Luther King would probably think, the fight for freedom continues), and slavery was a big factor in the US's most destructive (for herself) conflict, the Civil War!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Indians were indeed used as slaves in the US, primarily on southern plantations!. It turned out to be difficult to keep indian males on the job because when they got close to the woods, they were gone without a trace!. Indian women, not knowing really how to survive on their own, stayed on the plantations!.

When blacks were introduced into slavery in the US, they knew nothing of the outlying woods and were reluctant to run away!.

As a matter of fact, at the time of the "Trail of Tears," indians also held black slaves!. Great Cherokee chiefs and Joseph Vann and John Ross took their black slaves with them on the walk!.

As an interesting aside, many in the black community think that the Uncle Remus stories are black and African in origin!. There was a book published long before Uncle Remus was written that give the talks of the S!. E!. American Indians!. That is Mooney's MYTH OF THE CHEROKEE, originally a Smithsonian publication!. The tales related in Uncle Remus are those in a black dialect!.

How did that happen!? The enslaved indian women stayed on the plantation when the blacks were introduced!. There was a lot of intermarriage!. Folklore travels through the milk of the mother when the baby is young!. Specifically what I mean is that when the baby is nursing, the mothers told the tales over and over, so the indian tales became black tales also!.

There are a lot of books that you can read on this subject!. I have read about 20 all total!.

Why the indians did not go into an uproar - in my opinion, since the indian tribes in question even made slaves of their captured foes, slavery was an accepted thing!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Indeed you are correct about Africans and their descendants not being the only slaves, and Indians were accosted as well!. Indians were moreso isolated from their original lands and territories than enslaved!. They did serve mainly as indentured servants to the upper class and those that served in congress!. There came the genocide of Indians by cruel means such as disease blankets, the Trail of Tears into Oklahoma, the Spanish conquests in Florida and so forth!.

My view of why African slavery is so important is because of the research done about them as opposed to becoming acquainted with Indians, the dangerous journeys from the colonies to the African coast which took months at a time, and the cruel captivity conditions of those slaves!. And of course, those slaves were the backbone of the building of this country!. If it were not for the free labor of slaves, the industrialization of this country would not be as profitable as it is now!. Slavery was starting inceptions of what we know as the stock markets, that investment was lucrative!. These are strong people that are able to work under the sun moreso than others!.

But still, slavery is slavery!. And slavery is a historical means of controlling!. But your question always stands open for good debate!. Just thought I would share my thoughts, I like questions like that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
