Question: What do you think was the main cause of Bacon's Rebellion!?

I believe that it was mainly the pressures put on the outlying farms by the Native Americans that was the main spark of the rebellion!. As noted in Jamestown by Warren Billings:
"Angered at Gevernor Berkeley's apparent unwillingness to protect them, disaffected colonists cast their lot with a young newcomer, who eagerly made their cause his own!." (p83)
There may also have been a general dissafection with Berkely, who was in his 60s and ruled with an inner clique of men, and had been governor for 17 years!.
It has to be noted though, the the rebellion fell apart after the death of Bacon, which suggests that a large part of the rebellious attitute was based on his convictions (or perhaps arrogance)!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
