I think that if the UK government were to apologize for the Ireland genocide, then some English people may even wake up to the fact that perhaps the history that we're taught in UK schools isn't entirely accurate!. Who knows what might happen then!? English involvement in Ireland shames me, and almost nobody in England knows about it!!!

School history is just one lie after another!. The truth is awful beyond measure!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't that we did officially apologise because if you apologise you then have to compensate!.

Ken Livingstone aplogised about slavery )on behalf of Londoners) but I don't beleive that there was an official governement apology - by that I mean a statement in the Houses of Lords and Commons rather than just some politian saying 'it was an unfortunate turn of events!.!.!.'

Did Britian ever say sorry to the one million Indians and Pakistanis killed during our colonial rule!? I doubt it!. Some, especially politians, just see it as the way of the world!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

get the facts right the unfortunate potato famine was not helped at all by the british but there were food stocks in belfast and dublin for distribution but no one in ireland had the gumption to authorise it ,and yes I am british but my grand father came from ireland, but what happened in the past should stay there the troubles are the best example of thisWww@QuestionHome@Com

I completely agree!. Even if the people who did it are dead, they could make a sort of national apology, like Germany did!.

Every time I think about it, my blood boils!. Obviously, I wasn't there, so I don't know what it was like, but both sides of my family immigrated to the US from counties Meath and Dublin and the stories have been passed down and not forgotten, even here!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Give it a rest!. Would it make you feel any better if i now apologise on behalf of the British Government!. I am, I consider qualified being an Englishman!. If so I apologise!. There its now done and dusted!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course there's one country that will never say sorry for anything - The United States!. The last empire acts with impunity to this day!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

errr should we hate all of the white americans today because of slavery!? should we hate all germans TODAY because of ww2!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think so!. I have never heard of Great Britain doing that and I have never heard of them apologizing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Did Hitler ever say sorry!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

The only time I've heard of Britain making an apology is for the slave trade, so I think not!. (:Www@QuestionHome@Com

When you say 'Britain', what you really mean is 'Scotland' isn't it !Www@QuestionHome@Com

Did Ireland ever apologize for the Nolan Sisters!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, the people responsible are actually dead now so it would be a bit hard! Unless they came came back as ghosts!Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think you have got a potato chip on your shoulder!Www@QuestionHome@Com

NoWww@QuestionHome@Com

yes - Tony Blair did in 2002!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

point well made just years to late!Www@QuestionHome@Com

i'm sure it would be met with abuse!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, they would have to apologise to India as well - I think actually even more Indians died through famine while food was shipped out of the country and back to England!. There was a saying that "England was eating India's bread"!. Basically slaughtering a population via negligence - for profit - is just vile behaviour!.

Apologies don't change anything, but it really is the best one can do so far after the fact!. And at least it implies remorse and hopefully the will to not gloss over past misdeeds in favour of nationalism!.

Most countries have something unsavoury in their past, one just needs to look!. Due to the long and bloody British Empire - there is a lot that can be laid at England's doorstep!.

Edit - Hitler never said sorry as he was dead, but Germany apologised and paid restitution to England!. And how very typical that someone deflects the question towards the US- because that is the answer to every question, isn't it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
