The Chinese city the first answer was thinking of was Beijing, which was the capital of Northern China!. In the Middle East they conquered Baghdad and Damascus!. In Russia they conquered Moscow and Kiev!. They would have conquered Vienna, but they stopped their attacks on Europe when Ogotai Khan died!.

Wikipedia has a good article on military tactics of the Mongols!.

"The Mongol military tactics and organization helped the Mongol Empire to conquer nearly all of continental Asia, the Middle East and parts of eastern Europe!. In many ways, it can be regarded as the first 'modern' military system!."

Their strengths were mobility, firepower, and organization!. They conquered many cities with advanced siege warfare

"Mongols were experts in laying sieges, often diverting rivers and food from cities!. They also sent off refugees to other unconquered cities, in order to strain enemy resources!.

Technology was one of the important facets of Mongolian warfare!. For instance siege machines were an important part of Genghis Khan's warfare, especially in attacking fortified cities!. The siege engines were disassembled and were carried on horses to be rebuilt at the site of the battle!.

The engineers building the machines were recruited among captives, mostly from China and Persia!. When they slaughtered whole populations, they almost always spared the engineers and technicians, swiftly assimilating them into the Mongol armies!.

A commonly used tactic was the use of what they called 'kharash'!. During a siege the Mongols would drive before themselves a crowd of local residents which had the role of being an 'alive board' or 'human shields' as it is now known!. The kharash were also forced ahead to breach walls!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

Um, it was probably the capital of China at the time (it escapes me)!. They invaded it and took over!. There isn't much historical records, obviously, it was during an invasion so I really doubt people would be writing when there was war going on!.

Either that or it was when the Mongols invaded some European city!. They used plague-ridden bodies and threw them over wallsWww@QuestionHome@Com

Good Answers--I'm sure that the large city captured was the now named Beijing!. Great books are those written by Conn Iggulden on Genghis Khan's assault upon all of Northern Asia!. Midway, he stopped indiscriminant killing; set laws and rules throughout the regions and started the spread of modern civilization!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
