I would guess Liverpool!.

By the way, sir, do you contend that the slave trade to which you refer was unique!?

Arabs also took many slaves from Africa over the same period!. In fact slavery is a recurring and natural feature of human civilisation, whenever different ethnic groups meet!. And of course we should not forget that the different black tribes in Africa took each other as slaves!.

Your ancestors may well have owned slaves with equal or greater frequency than mine!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Check out the number of white slaves that were seized by barbary pirates from the coastal towns of England, up to the nineteenth century!. It is an interesting side light on history,up to 750,00 were involved, and funds were raised in Englaish churches to try to redeem them!. While there is no justification for slavery, it is worth noting that life was pretty grim for ordinary people in the African despotisms of West Africa!. One king used to ordinarily kill 4,000 subjects on his birthday, and had his palace floored with human skulls!. So, get over it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Actually if you look at slavery objectively, the ones who benefited the most, by far, were the descendants of slaves!. If a black person, say Michele Obama, wasn't lucky enough to have had a forefather who was a slave, she would have been one of four wifes to some old guy, would have been circumcised, be illiterate, have a half dozen kids and be infected with HIV!.

Go to Africa and check out how many people prefer their existing condition being ruled by other blacks or living in the West, and you'll find it's a no brainer!.

Whatever crimes the whites of yesteryear committed (aided by blacks who sold their brothers and sisters to slavery), it's been more than paid for by the lifestyles that the slaves' descendants enjoy today!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The cities most involved were the three biggest ports of the day!. These were Bristol, Liverpool and London!. I rather think that a handful of slave traders prospered rather than the majority of people!.
I don't think any nation could deny involvement with this awful trade in human suffering!.!.!.!.!.!.least of all the US and Britain!. It is part of the history curriculum in schools and most people are at least aware of it, many very well informed!. Neither of us has anything to be proud of in that respect!.

Yes, Britannia did take part in the slave trade, but that was abolished without the bloody war that took place in the United States, in great measure by then Prime Minister William Wilberforce with the Slave Trade Act 1807 and the Slavery Abolition Act 1833!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The foundations of our modern city network were laid during the eighteenth century!.

As colonial commitments broadened, and commerce flourished, the cities of Bristol, Liverpool and Newcastle prospered!.

New money, emboldened by wealth from slavery and the export economy, began to circulate!.
