Question: What is the importance of skyscrapers!? what do they symbolize!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
At first, they were conceived not as symbols, but as solutions to a space problem!. For instance, Chicago was bordered by man-mad and natural boundaries on three sides in the late 1800s, so building up was a solution!. The importance of them is to make the most out of land by achieving the highest (lame pun intended) return possible!.

They quickly became symbols of economic might, especially in Chicago and New York toward the end of the 19th century!. And even today they are symbols of "American might" to many citizens and certainly to those who carried out the September 11 attacks!.

They still are used in places like Dubai, where they are built as trophies rather than economically viable structures!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

*with a smirk* It was often noted (back in the 1920s) when building the Chrysler and Empire State buildings that these monstrosities were nothing more than phallic symbols for the captains of industry!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
