Many people thought that the pilgrims just hopped on a boat and sailed to Plymouth and had fun with the Indians!. This is not how it happened!. At first the pilgrims fled to the Netherlands to escape religious persecution from King James!. After many painful years the Dutch were going to fight the Spaniards at this time the Pilgrims sold all of their belongins and were granted passage to the New World by King James!. The Mayflower was actually a cargo ship that was converted to hold people!. The Pilgrims also had another ship to but this ship proved faulty as it returned to England soon after their departure!. The life on the ship was hard heavily salted beef mixed with beer they drank was a very bad combination!. Many settlers were infected with scurvy ( lack of essential vitamins)!. When they finally made it to the New World the settlers landed on Cape Cod!. The Indian trip there at the time (the Nassasaut) were very very angry with Englishmen!. The settlers took alot of their corn which furthur infuriated them!. Finally about 2-3 weeks after their landing the Nassasaut attacked the settlers so the pilgrims moved to a safer landing site named Plymouth!. There after many weeks of suffering from the Winter the Pilgrims found allies with the Wampanoag tribe where they lived happily ever after hope i help our class watched a 2 hour long video on the voyage Www@QuestionHome@Com
