Henry VII was Catholic!. He started out as Henry Tudor and won the crown during the last days of the Wars of the Roses!. He married the last York princess, Elizabeth and had 4 children: Arthur (died young), Henry VIII, Margaret and Mary!.

If you're asking if Henry VIII was Catholic, he was born Catholic and was a staunch supporter of the Pope until Henry wanted to marry Anne Boleyn!. When he couldn't get the Pope to agree to an annulment from his wife, Catherine of Aragon, Henry broke from the Catholic church and formed the Church of England!.

Still, this was not a true Protestant church!. The Church of England (Anglican) was in most ways Catholic in it's observances except Henry was the head of the church, not the Pope!.

Protestantism didn't gain popularity until after Henry's death when his son Edward took the throne!. Edward had been raised by powerful Protestant men who used him as a tool to drive the Catholics out of England!.

To this day, Catholics are not very accepted in England!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The earliest English monarch we know was certainly Catholic was Aethelred of Wessex (and of Kent)!. He was also revered as a saint by the people, though was never canonised by the church!.

His successor Alfred the Great, the first true king of all England, was certainly Catholic, and then all monarchs up to Henry VIII were Catholic, but Henry VIII split from Rome to found the Church of England, in defiance of the Pope's refusal to annul his marriage!.

So Henry VII was Catholic!.

EDIT - Countess's answer made sense right up until the last sentence "to this day Catholics are not very accepted in England!." As a (former) Catholic, I have lived in England all my life and can tell her religion does not matter one jot to people in England today!. In fact, thanks largely to east European immigrants, Catholics are now more numerous than Church of England for the first time in almost 500 years! Being a Catholic does not hinder you in any way in England, unless you plan on claiming the throne, in which case you would be barred from doing so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Henry VII was Catholic!. so was Henry VIII!. Despite his break with Romen, he never thought of himself as a Protestant, and in fact continued to persecute Protestant heretics during the later part of his reign!. His last Queen, Katherine Parr, got into trouble for supporting a Protestant heretic called Anne Askew, who was burnt at the stake by Henry!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
