Question: Middle Ages - a lesson in class, what would interest you!?
I'm not looking for facts, I can get them just fine by myself considering I'm a history nut, but I would like some opinions and/or a few ideas or tangents of the Middle Ages!.

My homework is to plan out a lesson of something during the Middle Ages!. I don't want my homework done for me, that's not why I'm posting, it's in French anyways as I am in Immersion! I was thinking of doing something along the lines of the hierarchy, overall or perhaps just the servants etc of the court 'Scullery Maid to King' sort of thing!. But I need to make it interesting somehow!

A lot of people have picked music, instruments, theatre and some pretty common ones!. I don't want to repeat a lesson and just have it be boring, I'm looking for something a little unique!.

Would you lot be bored out of your minds with my proposed subject!? Should I play some sort of game where I assign roles to everybody, and the person playing the king gives an order and we process through the class to see who ACTUALLY does what he asked!? Sift through the ceremony to see where the work was done!?

I'm really not sure!. My teacher said it's more important that I present facts unknown to everybody else, considering it is not my Socials class but my Fran?ais Langue 10 [language arts] I think the accuracy of info I can handle quite well by myself, it's the pomp and presentation I'm needing help with!

So any help would be greatly appreciated and I will give the best answer 10 points!.

Cheers!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I, too, am a history nut, and I have to say that the things that fascinate me the most about the middle ages are weaponry and warfare!. However, I think a lesson about the hierarchies of the medieval period would be a great idea!. You could discuss rights, professions, economic conditions, and dress for each of the major levels!.

The idea of having one person play the king is also a great idea!. It would make the subject more interesting for the kids in the class who aren't so keen on history, and would probably be a lot of fun!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

One very common mistake when medieval history is presented to students is the fact that you are often under the false impression that everything was the same everywhere!. Whereas actually you cannot dream a more diverse time as the middle ages!.

That's why I think instead of going for something broad you should concentrate a local matter!. Most French towns have a very rich medieval history!. You also have the possibility to speak about a monument of an institution (in Paris, Toulouse or Montpellier you have the universities for instance, in Chartres, Strasbourg and many other places you have the cathedral, etc!.)!.

If you want to go for something a bit more colorful, you can talk about the guilds in the cities and villages!. Me for instance I once reproduced a medieval butcher's sign for an art class!.

Right now, I'd go for something playful a bit simcity-like such as the development of a town and of its countryside from a mere village to a tens of thousands inhabitants strong city!. If you are interested by that I'd love to help you (I speak French meself so no language problem)!.

Ok that's all, best of luckWww@QuestionHome@Com
