After the Anglo-Saxons invaded britian in the 5th centuryWww@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
The Celts had already migrated to Wales and Western Scotland, so they pretty much hunkered down and stayed!. The Angles and the Sais (Saxons) called them the "Britons" as the Romans had called them "Bretons!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

Keep in mind, that by the time of the Saxon invasion, Britain had been a Roman possession for around four centuries!. The Celts already existed on the fringes of the Romano-British world!. In Wales, Cornwall, and of course in Ireland!.

The short answer is that some of the Celts (and some of the Britains, too) fled into the hills and swamps and hinterlands!. However, most did not!. The evidence suggests that the Saxon invaders did not kill everyone in the areas they conquered, and that while they certainly deeply altered the culture, they did not erase what had come before!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some went west, to Wales or Cornwall mainly, some went to Brittany in France (which had ties with Britain going back to the age of Stonehenge)!. However, it seemed a lot more stayed put or just moved a short way away, perhaps into more hilly secluded regions!. Certainly there are very few people nowadays who believe the saxons wiped out ALL the natives, even if they lived apart from them for some centuries!. (the southwest of england (wilts, ,Dorset, devon, somerset) has lots of celtic remnant as does remote areas of the Peak district, among others!.)
near to me an early pagan Saxon cemetary has been found;mixed with it are christian British burials,so they were obviously living side by side in reasonable peace in this particular area!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
