Royal colonies were under the jurisdiction of the king himself, while charter colonies were either under private ownership (Proprietors or Company's)

Royal colonies usually had some okay governors, sent in by the king or self-appointed!.

While, some charter colonies like Pennsylvania (Named after William penn) had some hardships, growing hate against the absolute power of the proprietor caused some conflict and threw him out of office, also Delaware was part of Pennsylvania but since they wanted better government they broke off!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
