More specifically, railroads (North made "Sherman Hairpins" out of them), Universities (including the University of Alabama which had been completely destroyed/burned with the exception of the observatory), homes, crops, churches, bridges, entire cities (with the exception of Savannah, GA)!.!.!. Plus the intangible things: the economy--particularly in the South, the morale of all Americans, the attitudes, the lives of the freed slaves!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Railroads, the political systems and government, education system (although Virginia called the Civil War "The War of Northern Aggression" for another hundred years), land settlements of people who died in the warl!.
