Question: Hegel's concept for Thesis, Antithesis and Synthesis in relation to the Renaissance!?
I have a paper to write (due tomorrow) on Which Historical Interpretation Best Describes the Renaissance, and I've come to the conclusion that it is the Hegel Interpretation!. I was thinking Dark Ages = thesis, Medieval = antithesis, Renaissance = synthesis but then Medieval and Goth Ages are almost the same!. So then a friend told me that thesis is religion, antithesis is knowledge, I am severely confused!.!.!.anyone please help me out, I'm in a crisis
:) thank youWww@QuestionHome@Com

The thesis and antithesis can be anything you like!. The concept as a ehole conerns the inevitable transition of thought, by contradiction and reconciliation, from an initial conviction (the thesis) to its opposite (the antithesis) and then to a new, higher conception that involves but transcends both of them (the synthesis)!. When you mention Medieval and dark ages they are the same thing!. I would hazard a guess that if you're looking to interpret the Renaissance with Hegel's theory the your thesis will be medieval/dark age scholasticism, your antithesis will be humanism and your synthesis will then be the Renaissance!.
