the central idea of Hammurabi's code is "eye for an eye"!. The punishments in his codes were generally very harsh, and the severity also depended on the offender's social status!. A slave would have more severe punishment than a noble if they committed the same crime!.

The strict laws were created as a deterrent, meaning that they are meant to scare ppl from committing crimes!. And it is crude because Hammurabi's code is the first ever written law in human history written more than 4 thousand years agoWww@QuestionHome@Com

He had such a strict sentence because he wanted judges to find the correct person who breached the system of justice!. Remember that if the judges didn't catch the person who committed a crime the judges would have to pay the family back from their own pockets!. Hammurabi didn't want the judges to make falsified rulings just because they didn't want to pay the family back!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

he wanted to have total control so his empire wouldn't fall apart!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
