1!.) The Roman military machine was always its height and was the most efficient the world had ever seen, and ever saw until the times of the Pax Britannica era!.

2!.) The Roman cavalry was EXCELLENT, because at its height it encompassed areas like Spain, and Lower Germany, Eastern Europe, and the Arabic Areas, that gave Rome outstanding cavalry and horses!.

3!.)The Roman infrastructure, was unsurpassed in that ancient(and medieval) world, the ability for Rome to get messages from the Government to the troops, would of proved more than a match for the Chinese!.

4!.) While, in theory, China would have a bigger army, China still used a primitive style army, of plucking up peasants and giving then a spear!. Rome had a truly professional army, whose tactics and discipline were unmatched!. The Roman discipline would be much to difficult for the scattered Chinese peasants to break!.

5!.) The Roman legion, at its height had lost almost never, once to Hannibal!. The Romans would have the Skill and Moral to win!. This is the same Military that defeated ALEXANDER THE GREAT phalanx in Macedonia!. The Same Military that defeated Carthage!. The Military that subdued Gaul, Persia, Palestine!. At its height, the Roman military was invincible!. Due to its tight knit, but maneuverable formation, the romans could adapt to any battle field quickly and efficiently, and with out flaw, to over come, and out wit their opponents!.

Edit: To the answerer below me: Get your facts straight you imbecile!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Some might say that their culture -- religion, etc!. kept them rom advancing, but how different would their culture have changed if their written language wasn't so cumbersome!? They have what -- 5,000 unique characters!? What would the West have been if for centuries, only scholars could write!? I think the computer has been a bigger boon to the Chinese than for other nations because of its ability to facilitate written communication!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

in relation to the sirmarshall7's answer!.

China minds its own business!. They had a great culture but they didn't find the need to expand their territories!. May have also something to do with China's nickname before: "The sleeping Giant"

my opinion as well!. :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

Well, they had a huge country to start with, and it was probably enough for them!. I think they regarded themselves as superior to the rest of the world, and prefered to keep their distance!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

China is the "Middle Kingdom," the link between heaven and Earth!.!.!.!. All other countries are inferior to China-- Why would China want to conquer inferior peoples!?!? This is not necessarily my opinion, just Chinese prospective!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They started with trade and exploration centuries ago and made to the Middle East and Africa but their emperor decided it was to expensive and stopped all that!. Good thing for Europe :))!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Jianana or whatever your stupid name is, Clo is very right and there is no need for you to get so damn personal about this ! Wtf is wrong with you!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

they were too shortWww@QuestionHome@Com

Ok clo you are goddamn ignorant in history and you know you are so y dont u stop embarrass yourself!.

1!. Romans lost more than a handful of battles!. Actually more than 50 small or big battles all together!. Go look up yourself and actually learn something!.

2!. Roman government is corrupted by the end of 200s B!.C!., they have dictator like Sulla who has thrown Rome into a complete Chaos!. Ching Dynasty, however, had excellent communication and governing system!. In fact i could support an army half its population!. That requires outstanding infrastructure and extremely effective communication!. How many other nation in history could have done that!?

3!. Romans didn't have excellent cavalry you stupid dumbass!. What little cavalry they had were all mercenaries from Gaul or Germania!. Ching dynasty at that time had bigger Mogolian and Parthian horses!. Thousands of chariots as well as heavy cavalry armed with crossbow that could slaughter the Roman Cavalry from a distance!.

4!. Ching Dynasty could have hosted 1 million soldiers easily by the time it had unified China!. that's like 5 times more than what Romans could afford to put together!. Ching dynasty always had brilliant generals well versed in the art of war!. They chased Huns all the way to Europe where they caused great damage to the Europeans!.

5!. Romans depended on heavy infantry who are only good at close quarter melee combat!. Chinese armies had long composite bow and crossbows!. Ok the crossbows along are as powerful as the rifles we have today and they can release volleys and volleys of those upon the roman legions from 300 meters away!.!.!. The arrow head are triangular designed to pierce armors!. Romans couldn't even get close to Chinese armies!.

6!. Ok CLo ignorant moron!. To do hannibal justice, the only reason he was defeated at Zama was because Scipio studied and used the same tactics he used, and he had the superior Numidian cavalry on his side which enveloped Hannibal's army!. To do Macedonian Phalanx justice!. On all occasions the roman leigons were able to defeat them was because they either didn't want to fight the Romans to the death, or their leader and cavalry + supporting troops had left the battle field!. The Roman historians wrote that it was a nightmare to face a forest of Macedonian pikes!. If they had good general with supporting Companion cavalry they would've whooped the Roman's ***!.

7!. Roman heavy legions' bane is heavy cavalry!. At battle of Carrhae and Adrianople, they are crushed by the Parthians!. in fact, one of the legions captured by the Parthians are sent to fight the Chinese and were captured and sent to exile in western china by a chiense general!. Even now, there's a district of china w/ roman architecture and an unique people of chinese/roman mix!.

8!. I think i dont need to go on about Clo's stupid idiotic responses about the romans!. I'll say that the Chinese never expanded into Europe because They are self-sufficient and governing such a huge nation has taken up most of the Emperor's Time!. There are, however, times in Chinese history that they expanded west mainly to secure the silk road!. E!.g!. Tang dynasty

9!. China was always the most advanced nation both in culture and technology until late 1600 when the Europeans had advanced gun/cannon technology and Industrial revolution!.

OK i'm sorry that i might have been a little harsh on Clo; i'm just really pissed about ppl who post wrong information online about history!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
