I don't agree with doing homework for people but I will give you some pointers!.

1!. The Unionist politicians in the North wanted to rule over the greatest area of land and still stay in the majority!. I also suggest you look up the term Gerrymandering and see how it was used in places like Derry!.

3!. Look up the Home Rule Bill

2!. Look up 'The Ulster Covenant,' and Sir Edward Carson!. The very short answer to this (and it comes with a health warning) is to avert a civil war in Ireland!. Many Loyalists to the crown in Ireland were willing to take up arms if the Island of Ireland was given autonomy out of fear of the influence of the Catholic Church!.

The Irony is that there was a civil war after partition but it had nothing to do with the loyalists but was fought between Nationalists who felt Micheal Collins was wrong to settle for a divided Ireland and those who felt he was right!.

I'd warn against two things don't be too biased in your answers and do not make the mistake of thinking all protestants were unionists and all Catholics nationalists!. This was the general rule but there are many notable exceptions!. Charles Stewart Parnell for example!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In Ireland, there is one area where those who want to stay with Britain form a clear majority and another area where those who want to have an independant irish republic form a clear majority!. So partition seemed an intelligent thing to do!. Of course the republicans do not like it because there remains a catholic minority in the protestant part not liberated and they see Ireland as one unit that ought not to be divided!. This idea is strengthened by the fact that Ireland is an island!. If she were part of a continent the idea of making a border somewhere might be more convincing!. (By the way: the term "fiddle" seems biased to me!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com
