NEITHER !!! This modern day notion that one should have only one sexual partner in their entire lifetime and should never ever even have a friendship with an attractive member of the opposite sex is disgusting!.
Edward was deeply fond of his wife and treated her with love and affection and she would be the first to call him an attentive caring husband!. Edward was a bit plump and so when women found him attractive he enjoyed the flattery and Edward loved to flirt!. Not all of the women Edward is linked with were actually sex partners (though so what if they were!), merely women who shared a loved for fine food & wine and the Opera or musical events!. On many occassions Alexandra encourage her husbands infeldelities, she was busy raising children who were equally happy with their father, one of the few Royal Fathers who actually spent time with his children and treated them with LOVE not with the harsh neurotic cruelty that Victoria bestowed upon her brood!.
Edward was an excellent King, one of Englands best and it is tragic that medicine was not advanced enough to have given Edward VII a decade of more on the throne!. World War One would have quite different had Edward been KIng!. Not that George was terrible but frankly Edward the VII had the balls to slap Kaiser Bill around and demand a withdrawl from France & Belgium!. Edward would not have waited around while his diplomats fumbled the ball!. He would have jumped on a Channel Boat, and then a train and taken charge of efforts to placate Austria & Serbia!.
A Final Note - - - it was Queen Alexandra who insisted that Edward's final mistress attend his funeral and the two women remained good friends!. Only in an America obssessed with shows such as 'Desperate Housewives' are women expected to throw hysterical crying jags & errupt into violence if their man so much as glances at an attractive woman, or heck, any woman!.!.

I think its because he was bored!. Edward VII spent much of his life waiting for his mother to die, like Prince Charles!.

also, like Prince Charles, Edward's mother, Queen Victoria, had a low opinion of his abilities!. Victoria thought that Bertie (he was actually named Albert after his father) was not very bright!. She did not allow him any input in or knowledge of government affairs!.

He was not allowed to have any proper occupation!. This was not just a matter of class but government policy!. A king who was an engineer, doctor, or whatever could not be tolerated by Parliament!. Such person would have the standing to challenge the Prime Minister!. Lets say Edward trained to be a physician!. If the government tried to pass any bill about national health care, the King could challenge them with authority!. In fact, the leading expert on the British constitution of the time wrote a book that said that essentially the heir to the throne must not have any skills!.

As it turned out, when he finally did become king, he was one of the most able to hold the office!. He had a first rate mind even for his advanced age!. He also made sure that his son, the future George V, was fully included so that there would be a smooth transition!.

It was a different time!. Men of high positions cheated!. Alexandra was the daughter of a King!. She understood this!. However, Edward was very loving and tender towards her!. He respected her opinions and listened to them!. He was a loving father!. As men of his time went, he was not the worst of them!.

His son, George V, by contrast was a jackass of monumental proportions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The British Royal Family have always been a randy lot, and Edward VII was really no different!. It is just that in the past people were more reverential and scandals, by and large, didn't get out!. However, Edward was so notorious, becoming involved even in legal scandals, that his behaviour became common knowledge!. Others were a little more discrete!. However, nowadays with the press after every tidbit nothing is hidden and we know most of what is going on!. You mention Alice Keppel, grandmother of Camilla!. Prince Charles was having an affair with Camilla for many years, before and during his marriage to Diana!. And that lady had plenty of lovers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
