The answer is both!. While his body and mind were both ill these reasons do not explain the evil he spread throughout Europe!. None of Hitler's psychological problems were responsible for the atrocities he committed!.

Hitler is believed to be a heavy drug user!. His incessant afflictions included headaches, dizziness, severe bloating, abdominal spasms, belching and constipation!. He was also a victim of coronary heart disease and hypertension, and later developed Parkinson's disease!.

His mental state is something to be discussed:
It is difficult to do a postmortem psychoanalysis of a dead man!.
He was often psychic and suicidal!. His own circle often put him on suicide watch!. German General Heinz Guderian made an observation of the post-20 Jul 1944 Hitler:
"After the July 20th attempt, Hitler was a sick man!. Even before the assassination attempt, he had been very nervous, and not in complete possession of his faculties!. His left side trembled!. His mind was not clear enough to appreciate the real situation of Germany!. He was a man of energy and will; his will outweighed his sense!. He hypnotized his entourage!. He had a special picture of the world, and every fact had to fit in with that fancied pictured!. As he believed, so the world must be!. But, in fact, it was a picture of another world!."
Below are several resources and analysis of the man!. The general agreement is that he was a neurotic psychopath but that is not enough to explain what he wrought on Europe!. He was evil, racist and and yet some how able to seduce the Germany!. many have called him "the destructive prophet"!.

There is no doubt that Hitler had both psychological and physical health problems for most of his life!. They stemmed from a physically abusive father in childhood, through his rejection as an artist, unemployment, and near starvation in his late teens and early 20's, the trauma and wounds he suffered as a soldier during WWI, and unemployment again in the post-war period in Germany!.

In this experience however he was probably no different from millions of others of his generation!. What makes him outstanding was his gift for oratory and the festering evil which gave rise to the holocaust and drove him eventually to madness and death!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Hitler was a brilliant and charismatic communicator, and also a mentally ill and evil person who surrounded himself (thinking mostly of Himmler here) with other evil people!. He was entranced by the occult and Norse/German mythology and through his narcissism he thought of himself as a god!. He only admired the Catholic Church b/c they had so much power and wealth!.

How do we not judge this person!? He even deprived us of trying him and trying to find out what possessed someone like that to rise to such power!. Had he not been so mentally unstable, he might have had a shot at winning the war, as he assassinated many too military officials!.

Hitler was responsible directly and indirectly for tens of millions of deaths of people!. No "maturity" can make that any less heinous!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
