Between approximately 1500 and 1800, the global balance of power shifted toward Europeans!. Historians have taken many approaches to explaining this change!. Some historians have focused on “the rise of the West,” explaining European dominance as an inevitable result of European achievements, culture, and technologies!. Some historians have applied world systems theory to explain European dominance as a product of capitalism’s expansionist character!. Historians generally agree that this shift did occur, and historians also agree that the shift helps explain much of today’s global political and economic realities, including the distribution of wealth and poverty around the world today!. But since scholars do not agree on why the shift occurred, there are many answers to the question shown above!.
