I would suggest choosing a topic and following it through!. If you're beginning then try something relatively well documented- maybe Julius Caesar or Leonidas!. then follow through the person, family, upbringing and career!. Feel his choices and try to think of the alternatives!.

At least that's my idea!. Now I'm following Prince Eugene of Savoy in his battles against the Turks!. Fascinating!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A great place to start would be a book called "Heroes of History: A Brief History of Civilization from Ancient Times to the Dawn of the Modern Age" by Will Durant!. He briefly (but is quite informative) covers all the major points of history!. Your bound to find at least a few topics of interest!. His writing style is witty and eloquent, a great read!.

Here is a link where you can see the table of contents and search some things in the book!.

Count of Monte Cristo -- French Revolution historical fiction
Mary Stewart -- ancient Greek historical fiction
James Clavell -- ancient Japan historical fiction
