Question: Is it true Khalid ibn al-Walid was the best general!?
Is it true Khalid ibn al-Walid was undefeated in over 1000 battles and that he almost always lead from the front!. I have a project on the best general including perosonality!. He had the personality of Saladin!.
He apperently lead from the front even his byzantine enemis said he did and admitted even defated a force of 100,000 with 15 000, using his Cavalry and war elephants!. So what do you no about him!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

leading from the front is not exactly a good idea!. SImply because the general is supposed to lead the army!. And if he is in the front line then he is just another (no matter how good) single swordsman!. But he does not control the battle- and that means he is not a good general!.!.!.

defeats of larger forces are also nothing strange- Alexander at Gaugamela or Hannibal at Cannae (though I much prefer his lake trasimene win) are good examples

If I was to vote for a good general I would probably choose someone like Xenophon, or SobieskiWww@QuestionHome@Com

He would have to have fought over 50 battles a year for his entire adult life to have fought 1,000 battles, his tombstone has a list of 50 victorious battles on it!. And even Google doesn't say anything about his use of war elephants!.

EDIT:
Salman, unless there are more than one generals of that name he cannot possibly have led any forces against Crusaders – he had been dead for 450 years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
