Question: What does it mean when it says paid 40s!?
In a document from England in the 1400's (ish) It says that if you rob someone, you pay 40s!. Is this a fine!? If so how much!? Www@QuestionHome@Com

seems to be a fine,
a shilling was a lot of money in those days!. You can think of a shilling as the price of a cow!. (that was the value in about 1000 AD)
