Just a tiny bit!.

Native Americans, Indians, did some trading with the white man, namely animal furs for the most part!. Later on alcohol and guns became illegal trading!.
You must know that they were basically nomads and often moved around for food and water supplies!.
They certainly had their religious beliefs!.

As for some early American settlers, I'm aware of a little history of some farmers along he Mississippi River!. They carried their products, farm and/or crafts to the Gulf of Mexico, via the Mississippi on rafts!.
They could not return by the up river route and walked back to their homes and farms!. Through central Mississippi this was/is the Natches Trace Parkway!. This was the trail which they traversed to return from the Gulf!. There are still a couple of historical inns where they could stay and find food!.
They were basically religious people and some did own their own land!. As for socail values, I'm sure that they helped one another and looked out for each others welfare!.

You might be aware that in the early colonies, North East, there were many inns for travelers!. Rope and straw beds were furnished as well as food!. Beds were pretty public in one large room!.
As travelers slept on those rope beds, they sagged and had to be tightened often!. Bed bugs were a common pest!.
This is where the saying, "Sleep tight!. Don't let the bed bugs bite"!.
Meaning to tighten the ropes on the bed!.

As for food service, dishes were washed only once after three meals were served!. A diner had to clean his plate well!. Water was in too short a supply to wash them each time!.
Only wealthy travelers had private rooms and ate off clean plates!.

You may be aware of the Cajuns who were routed from Canada as undesirables and they moved South!. Many were murdered!. Many stayed along the way, but most found their way to Louisana, where one will find most Cajuns today!. They are a tight knit group of people, and are religious!. They strongly support each other!. They speak a mixture of French and English, which can be nearly impossible to understand as an outsider!.

You may know that their food is fantastic!.

I was raised in a very mixed part of the country, with many immigrants!. My father came from Italy, my mother's kin were from Germany!. Neighbors and school buddies were Polish, Chech, Greek, Russian, Hungarian, Jewish, Irish, too numerous to name all!.
They were all hard workers, religious and strong family values, and strove to own their own home!.

That's a broad historical question and this is only a very small portion of it!.

Hope this helps a little!.
