Question: Why did man have long hair wigs back in 1776!?

Back then Wigs covered bad hair!. King Louis XVI used it to cover his balding hair and the style caught on!. In addition, they didn't care for their hair the way we do (and can) now so it was easier to plop on a wig when going out in public!.

The wigs were also a status symbol, obviously, the best looking wigs were owned by the more affluent people!. This is where the term "Big Wigs" came from when indicating someone of status and power!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It was simply the fashion of the day!. It was meant to emulate a long-ago king that had been admired for generations, who actually had long, gray hair!. The wigs also separated the higher class from the low class, since the poor couldn't afford wigs!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Another reason was head lice!. Many well-to-do men simply shaved their heads and used wigs so that the little critters had no place to hang on, and they likely cleaned the wigs more frequently than their scalps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because it was the fashion!. Just like fally down trousers and short hair is fashion now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it;s the STYLE back thenWww@QuestionHome@Com
