Starting from North East, in a counter clockwise direction:

North East: Jilin province , and partially Liaoning Province, both bordering with North Korea!.
There are strong Korean minorities in this area and a border continuously under pressure due to trial of escape from North Korea of Korean citizens, hiding between the Chinese Korean community and later trying to reach South Korea via third countries!. It is a quite dramatic humanitarian problem

N: North of Jilin province there is Heilongjiang (HeiLong= Black Dragon) Province, borfering East and North (along Amur River) with the Siberian side of former URSS now Russian Federation!. In the past there were clashes with Russia on this border!. Now it is mainly a destination of Siberian Russian for road markets (including militaries selling parts of their uniforms and equipment)

N: (west and SW of Heilongjiang) there is Inner Mongolia (Nei Mongul) Province, bordering in NE with Russia but mainly with Mongolia!. A quite loose border often allows passage of nomadic mongolian groups living on both sides

NW: West of Inner Mongolia is Gansu , sharing a very small border with Mongolia, then the giant province of Xinjiang , with both political and strategic border problems!.
Xinjiang is inhabited by a strong minority of turkic origin ( uygurs) and many smaller minorities (kazakhs, huns, mongols and so on)
Main minority is Islamic and with some centrifugal trends (there is an Uygur separatist or liberation movement)
It borders with Russian Federation (North), Kazakhstan (NW)!., Kirgizistan (W) Afghanistan (W) and Pakistan (WSW) (last two having problems of infiltration of islamic fighters, as the last policemen killings in Kashi/Kashgar show) and with a smal area in SW contended with India

West: South of Xinjiang is Tibet, bordering with India, and, in the South, with Nepal, Buthan : all borders are lined by Himalaya mountains and require to cross some high altitude pass

SW : West of Tibet is Sichuan (no foreign borders) but South of Sichuan there is Yunnan province , bordering Burma /Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam all an the West!. This mountain and rainforest border is very hard to control and is often crossed by drug traffikers from the heroin Golden Trinagle (in Thailand , Burma and Laos)

WSW: finally there is Guangxi province bordering with Vietnam on its west

South: the former borders between Shenzhen and Hong Kong and Zuhai and Macao (Both in Guangdong Province) are now called "boundary" and they are no more bordersbeing Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions (SAR) of China

All the other are sea bordersWww@QuestionHome@Com
