Question: Why did the ancient Sumerian civilization know more than we do now!.!?
All of the discoveries that have been made in or about the universe happen to be rediscoveries, because the Sumerian scripts of around 6000 B!.C!. have written all about them!.!.!.!.!.!.How could they possibly have known so much!? Sitchin's "The 12th PLanet" sais a lot about them, however, I would love to hear other thoughts about it!.Please share with your knowledge!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. Thanx much :)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, first of all, you're completely wrong!.
I could list pages and pages of things they did NOT discover; electricity, physics, antibiotics, concrete!.!.!. it's an endless list!.

I think the problem a lot of people have (yourself included) is that you come from a default assumption that everyone before a couple hundred years ago were idiots!.
Then you are shocked to find out that they were not!.
I've read history, specifically Roman and Egyptian history, for a very long time, and although ancient civilizations certainly did NOT have all the discoveries you think they did, there certainly were some very smart people (genetically every bit as smart as us now)!.

For instance, the Romans had:
Concrete (including waterproof concrete)
Glass windows!.
Prosthetic digit and limb replacements (wooden legs, etc!.)
Running water inside houses, crude toilets with running water to carry the waste away!.

A lot of this knowledge and technology was forgotten about in Europe during the 'Dark Ages'
We study that, so we assume that all the advances since that time, were the first time they were made, but many of them, it's not true!.

For instance, in the 1800's in London, they hired an engineer to figure out a better way to deal with water distribution and sewage (this is when they were still tossing it out windows, piping it into the river Thames, etc!.)
He did some research, and got back to the government officials, and said "The Romans figured this all out 2,000 years ago, why aren't we doing it!?"

also, just another thought; so many people have too much respect for primitive indigenous people, their way of life, etc!.
The Romans had all this, yet 2000 years LATER, American Indians had not even figured out the WHEEL, and had not even thought up the need for a written language!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think we need to tie this to a little reality!. In 6,000 B!.C!. there were no Sumerian scripts because written language did not begin until about 3,000 B!.C!. in Egypt!. The Sumerian script followed soon thereafter!. As for the content of those writings, I am not sure what you are referring to!. I have translated a tremendous amount of old Sumerian and Akkadian material and the great wealth of knowledge you refer to isn't there!. They were an ancient, somewhat primitive people!. They knew something about the universe from watching the stars but certainly not anything that one could not know from observation!. The idea that somewhere in the distant past there was a utopian society full of knowledge and wisdom simply isn't accurate!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sitchin is well known to be a crackpot (to be polite)!.
No form of writing existed in 6000 BC!. The earliest writing forms evolved around 2800 BC and later!. The Sumerian civilization did not even begin to come into existence until after 3000 BC!.
If the ancients of whatever date were so smart, why did they think the Earth stood still and the Sun went around it!?
Or do the Sumerians really have a good explanation for dark matter, gamma ray bursters, and the big bang!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Question should be the other way round!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
