The Equal Rights party nominated him to be the vice presidential candidate in 1872!. He was running with Victoria Woodhill, the first woman nominee for President!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm pretty sure no!.

The reason I'm pretty sure about this is because from what I can tell, Frederic Douglass was a very intelligent, sane person!.

To have even THOUGHT about running for president as a black man in THAT time period, he would have had to be quite looney!. THere is NO way that a black man could have even come a LITTLE close to being considered a candidate!.!. Most were still slaves!.!. even almost a hundred years after slavery was abolished, African Americans did not have the same rights as whites!.!.!.


Thank God the times have changed!.

I don't know about whether Obama would make a good prez or not, But I'm thrilled that our country has ridded itself of racism to the extent that he has a chance!!
