Question: U!.S History essay, need ideas!?
I don't understand what my teacher means!. The topic: History is about "first" or "turning points" that make a change in the world!?
She gave us an example about how dinosaurs were extinct and another one about 9/11 and how it has affected us!.
I don't know what to write about!. Can you explain to me what the question/topic means!? and also if you can include some ideas I could write about!. Thanks in advance =)
(it has to be about world history- since we took it last year and "we don't know anything about U!.S history")Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm not sure her examples are really good ones, especially the dinosaurs!. But when something happens for the first time, it sets the course for how things will go in the future!. At least until a "turning point" happens, and people are forced to change their habits!. For instance, 9/11 was a "first" because it was the first time terrorists used the planes themselves as weapons of mass destruction, not only committing suicide and murdering the passengers, but inflicting casualties to those not on the planes themselves!. It is a turning point because since then we've had to do things like increase airport security (long lines, 3 ounce bottles of fluid, and taking shoes off among other things!.

An example of a first!. Washington was the first president!. He created the precident of a president serving only 2 terms of office!. Only one president broke that pattern, and after Roosevelt died the rules concerning the number of terms was changed to make Washington's example the law!. also, by refusing the title or trappings of kinghood, Washington set a turning point for the nation!.

Another turning point was the attack on Fort Sumpter!. That attack ended the last chance of any peaceful resolution to the issues between north and south!.It would take 4 years of war to reunite the nation!.

Another first would be the launching of Sputnik!. With the USSR laying claim to be the first into space, it forced the US into a turning point!. We either had to admit the USSR was superior in technology, or we could challenge them!. We took the challenge up, and about 13 years later we landed a man on the moon!.

Hope that helps some!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

try the American War for Independence and how a small collection of 13 colonies, 2!.5 million people defeated the Greatest Military Power of
its time because the 1/3rd of the people who supported the American
cause really believed in what they were doing!. We had remarkable
people Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, John Adams, and others!.
The world was stunned and then fell in love with our Revolution It has
been duplicated by many nations of the world and it started what is referred to as the American Dream!. It still exists today!. That is why
people come into our country!. We have fences up to keep people out
not like China, Cuba, and Russia where they have fences to keep
people in!.

turning points are a big event that changed our country's history!. If it is okay, you could do one about star wars being created!. it is a turning point because that is the first movie that had actually "cool" special effects if you know what i mean!. :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com
