Broadly,

The French held Canada with relatively few colonists, and could only spare relatively few troops to defend it!. The primary defenses for Canada were the rough, thick terrain between it and the British Colonies, and the support and alliance the French had with the Amerindian tribes of the Northeast and the Ohio River Valley!. The French & Indian War was only one theater of combat in the global Seven Years War, and as a result, the french were distracted by fighting in Asia, in the Caribbean and in Europe!. The British decided that they should concentrate on making gains in North America and sent a significant fleet and a significant army to attack Canada!. The British Colonists, too, raised numerous militias, and although they were relatively poorly armed and led by inexperienced officers, they were able to strongly support the British regulars!. In the end, General Wolfe laid siege to Quebec and finally took it with a daring assault and the victory at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham in 1759!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First the British took the Fortress of Louisbourg in Nova Scotia in 1758, this opened up the St!. Lawrence River for the British to attack Quebec, they captured Quebec in 1759, then traveled farther down the St!. Lawrence River, attacked and captured Montreal in 1760!. This effectively gave them control of Canada and forced the French to sign the " Treaty of Paris " in which they ceded all territory in Canada to the British!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
