Just a general overview of the concentration camps in the parts of Europe that were under Nazi control!.!.!.

Special concentration camps were built but the Nazis to detain people considered "undesirable", particularly Jews!. From 1941, many camps were set up throughout Eastern Europe, including Chelmno, Treblinka and Auschwitz!. These were literally death camps, built to achieve Hitler's "final solution" of exterminating all European Jews!. Thousands of men, women and children were led into chambers where they were killed with a cyanide compound, Zyklon B, introduced through vents in the walls!. Non-Jews were also killed, including gypsies and the disabled!.

Okayyy! So I think that pretty much sums up what they concentration camps were!. Now, we both know that Auschwitz was the largest and most prestigious amongst what I call, "Hitler's collection of doll houses!." Below are the most famous concentration camps!.!.!.

*Chelmno (or Kulmhof) Concentration Camp is in Poland!.
It opened in December, 1941!.
It is approximated that this camp killed around 320,000 people!.
*Auschwitz Concentration Camp is in Poland, too!.
It opened in September, 1941!.
This camp killed around 1,200,000 people!.
*Belzek Concentration Camp is in Poland as well!.!.!.
It opened in March, 1942!.
A total of 600,000 people were estimated liquidated (killed)!.
*Sobibor Concentration Camp, also in Poland!.
It opened in March, 1942 too!.
This camp killed around 250,000 innocent!.
*Treblinka Concentration Camp, also!.!.!. in Poland!.
It opened in July, 1942!.
This camp killed around 700,000 people!.
*Majdenek Concentration Camp is also in Poland!.!.!.
It opened in October, 1942!.
Around 1,380,000 people were exterminated!.
*Stutthof Concentration Camp is in!.!.!. Germany!.
It opened in June, 1944!.
For a camp that opened a year before the war ended, I found it creepy that the Nazi's managed to kill 65,000 people here!.

Anyway, and so ends the most famous ones!. The smaller camps that were in Germany were!.!.!.

*Arbeitsdorf, which was a concentration camp!.
*Bergen-Belsen, which was a collection point!.
*Breitenau, was another concentration camp!.
*Buchenwald, which was probably the most famous concentration camp!.
*Dachau, another famous concentration camp!.
*Flossenbürg, a concentration camp!.
*Hinzert, another concentration camp!.
*Kaufering, yet another concentration camp!.
*Zwieberge, another concentration camp!.
*Malchow, another concentration camp!.
*Mittelbau-Dora, another concentration camp!.
*Neuengamme, concentration camp!.!.!.
*Niederhagen, concentration camp!.!.!.
*Oranienburg, concentration camp!.!.!.
*Osthofen, concentration camp!.!.!.
*Sachsenhausen, the last concentration camp!.

These camps didn't have many people die in them!. They were small and out of the way, unlike Stutthof which was quite large!. Still, that's not to say that these camps weren't total utter hell!.!.!. I think the camp with the highest death rate in the list above was something like 100,000!. That's saying something because Stutthof was 65,000!. Then again, I think Stutthof is recognised because it killed a large amount of people the year before the war ended!.
I got that list off this link!.!.!.

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/List_of_Naz!.!.!.

I know it's Wikipedia, but it's actually quite accurate!. Anyway! Thanks for asking this question! I forgot that the camps that were responsible for the most deaths were outside of Germany!. I should tell my good friend Michal Kieca!.!.!. anyway!. This is actually quite interesting!. It shows that, once the Germans had conquered Poland, Austria, France etc they set up their bases for those they despised outside of their country!. It's a perfect example of showing how, even more prejudice, the Nazi's were!. It tells us quite clearly that not only did they want the Jews etc locked up, but they wanted them locked up and in their control!.!.!. in another country!.

Now, the most populated camps are determined by the camps that liquidated the most people!. The concentration camps were located in areas that were plains!. By this I mean large, flat, dry and tree-less areas!. Depressing, as I look at it!. Anyway, they did this for many reasons!. One, if a prisoner escaped, they would be easy to spot in the distance!. Two, because they are flat and bare, it was easy for trucks and trains to deposit prisoners there!. And so the list continues on!. You'd have to research a few of the camps!. Oh, I just thought of another one!. Some camps were located outside cities, and therefore won the adjoining name 'labor camp,' as well as 'concentration camp!.' Obviously, the Jews would work extremely hard to produce food and power for the cities, etc!. I know that outside Auschwitz, for instance, the prisoner's would mine for coal!.

Ok, hope this helped!

hello

there were two concentration camps in germany,
Buchenwald
-although being a work camp, an estimated 56,545 people died there

Sachsenhausen
-close to 100,000 people died there through abuse and medical experiments

most accounts of the Holocaust recognize six Nazi extermination camps in occupied Poland

Auschwitz II (Auschwitz-Birkenau)
Che?mno
Be??ec
Majdanek
Sobibór
Treblinka

The number of people killed at the death camps has been estimated as follows;

Auschwitz-Birkenau: about 1,100,000
Treblinka: at least 700,000
Be??ec: about 434,500
Sobibór: about 167,000
Che?mno: about 152,000
Majdanek: 78,000
Maly Trostenets: at least 65,000 (located in belarus)

the death camps were located far from town so that there were no civilian witnesses, and always on railway lines to ensure easy transport to the camps

hope that helps
