Of the two, I'd say A!. There were always a lot of northerners who were willing to let the southern states secede!. (In fact, at the beginning of the war, there was a MAJORITY of northerners who's attitude was "Let 'em go!")

I wonder what the other two answers might have been!. Another key time when a lot of northerners were advocating to just let the South go was when the war had dragged on into late 1864!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

neither a or b, as both happened practically to start the the civil war and to think it did move the north as so is to suggest cowardice on the north that they were scared of gen!. lee!.

instead there was growing public opinion in the north to just let the south just BEFORE the war when the confederate states was declared and formed!. previous to that, the north was seeking all sorts of ways to appease the south ( like allowing slavery to continue in states where it was already existing ) not to secede but the south was determined to the point of going to war!. and the north wanted to avoid war!.

A The confederate forces attacked fort sumter after Lincoln failed to keep his promise to remove the federal troops there!.

B Robert E!. Lee was offered the command of the Union army by Lincoln!. His refusal was based on his loyalty to his home state!. Lee was given command of the army of northern Virginia after Joe Johnston was wounded at the seven days battle in 1861!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What were the other two answers!? Northerners were, for the most part, NEVER willing to let southern states secede!. To most Union soldiers the war was all about preserving the Union!. Freeing the slaves, as a motivation, came later!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

um they are both acceptable of course!.!.
if i had to choose i would say b
Robert E!. Lee was a relatively nice guy and he would let them leave the union if they wanted too!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
