Can anybody tell me about the history of The Royal Horse Guards during WW2? ?

Question: Can anybody tell me about the history of The Royal Horse Guards during WW2!? !?

My Great Uncle died on 5th March 1944 and is buried in Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery and I want to know what he had been up to during the Second World War!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The second Household cavalry regiment was in England in March 1944, while the first regiment was in North Africa!. That makes it clear he served in 1HCR!.

1st Household Cavalry Regiment (1HCR), was sent to Palestine in 1940, giving up their horses in 1941 and, prior to being equipped with armoured cars for a reconnaissance role, they were deployed as trucked infantry in relatively short campaigns in Iraq, Syria and Persia!.
Re-equipped, the 1HCR then served in North African campaign at the battle of Alamein, and then to border duty near Turkey, before joining the Italian campaign in April 1944!.

It looks as though, in March 1944, your great uncle would have been near the Turkish border, or moving down to the port of Alexandria before shipping with his unit to a port in Italy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
