Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Fabrics in the SCA period are linen (both flax linen and hemp), wool and silk in various weaves!. Cotton was known of but wasn't really used because it was far too labor intensive to grow, harvest and process!.

That said you don't HAVE to use period fabric for your SCA garb, it is not a requirement unless you are an authenticity maven looking to joing the Pyxis!. For comfort's sake I encourage the use of linen in warmer months!. It really is more comfortable than cotton!. My Baroness is singlehandedly trying to convert the kingdom to linen lol by buying large bolts and offering it to the populace for very low prices!. For warm weather garb you definately want to stay away from synthetics or synthetic/cotton blends, though they are a little more forgiving for cool weather wear!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
