Question: A History of Histories!?
I just started reading this book and about 3 pages in i looked back and couldn't remember a thing that i read!. this book is probably the hardest book i've ever read!. Can anyone give me tips on reading a really hard book, or a website that explains all the references this guy makes!. or maybe even like a summary/ sparknote type of thing of this bookWww@QuestionHome@Com

I feel for you! I had to read a number of difficult articles and books for my degree and dissertation whenI did my degree in History!. Especially ones on historiography - those gave me nightmares!! lol :-P

I haven't read this book and if I'm honest I doubt that there will be any websites or summaries on it!. My advice would be (and it will take ages) to read a paragraph and then take notes of the main points before moving onto the next one!. It's time consuming but it helped me to be able to get my reading done! also, don't be disheartened by the language - egos are rife in the world of historical research and it sounds cynical but some write to show off their skills instead of actually getting into the nitty gritty!. A classmate complained once to one of my tutors and my tutor told him that if you read a text more than five times and you don't understand it, it is more than likely the fault of the writer than the reader!.

I hope this helped and good luck!. :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because it's boring, read it out loud instead of to yourself!. Stop after each paragraph and think about what that paragraph is stating!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Lol that's what i hate!I was watching movie clips in order on youtube and i forgot half of the things that happend!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
