If you live in Chicago, his name is mentioned often!. He was the young teenager who made the mistake of whistling while a white woman was near!. They don't even think he was whistling at her, she just took it that way!. She went home and raised a ruckus The men in her family went seeking justice and beat him to a pulp and gouged his eyes out to "teach a lesson" to all the other black boys not to "even raise their eyebrows to a white woman"!. Then he was shot in the head, wrapped in barbed wire, tied to a heavy motor and thrown in the river!. He was from Chicago and was visiting his uncle in Mississippi!. The sheer brutality of this murder shocked the North into understanding how dangerous life was for the Blacks in the South and sparked a major involvement of Whites from the North in the Civil Rights movement!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
