Assuming that by "the Renaissance," you mean both the southern/Italian and the northern periods, here is a list of events that played a role in the European Age of Reason, more commonly referred to as the Enlightenment these days:

- the Bubonic Plague (also called "Black Death" but NOT called the "Black Plague"), which may have helped with the concentration of wealth that allowed some scholars the liberty to work exclusively in natural philosophy, and may have made book printing much cheaper (James Burke, "The Day the Universe Changed")

- trade and exploration / spice trade and Crusades combined led to exploration of alternate routes to Indies, which improved navigation, technology (e!.g!. sextant), and scientific knowledge (e!.g!. longitude, size of earth), including an interesting but probably shallow link between Pacific voyages as an extension of the original Age of Exploration and the Voyage of the Beagle to the Galapagos, the basic research behind Darwin's Origin of Species

- trade and exploration / exposure to greater variety of cultures - led (sometimes indirectly) to questioning of European Christian assumptions about morality and human nature - I'm thinking about Jean-Jacques Rousseau here especially
