Question: Why is there so little known about Mary Boleyn!?

She wasn't really a very significant historical character, so there wasn't much written about her in her day, and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of surviving correspondence or anything!.

She was henry VIII's mistress for a time, but was married off to William Carey, and her affair with henry was probably over before her children were born (though some claim they were Henry's children, but there is no evidence to support this claim)!. She did not really make much of an impact on history, which is why so little is known about her!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that there is quite a lot of information about, however her birth date is a bit of a mystery and without this its hard to get concrete facts as some historians are unsure if she is Anne's older or younger sister!. I personally think that its a case of Mary not being as well known as her sister in many ways, even though she too had a relationship with Henry VIII and it was also rumoured that she bore a son by him!. Anne was far more in the public eye and was a very ambitious character even before she became linked with Henry and through her relationship and eventual marriage to Henry VIII leading to her unfortunate death, her entire life will have been documented in some way!. I think Mary was the quiet one!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am sorry, but what do you mean by "so little"!? For someone of her station and time, we know quite a lot!. She was just one of Henry's many mistresses and did not bear him children!. Both her marriages were to younger sons of "good" families, and so we had no reason to know her because of her husbands!. We know about her approximate year of birth, her father's and mother's families, her years at the French and English courts, her affairs with the French and English kings, her sister (Anne), her daughter (Catherine), her son (Henry), her grandson (Robert Carey), her great-grandson (Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex), and when she died!.

My thoughts on Mary!? She was lucky!. Sure, she wasn't the "star" Anne was, but she also escaped Anne's fate and married (2nd marriage) a man who loved her!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can google Mary Boleyn!. There is some history about her in wikipedia!. It gives her family history!.
Edit: I had never even heard of Mary Boleyn until the movie came out!. I found it to be very interesting, but I don't know just how factual it is!. I do know, from some research, that she did have a son named Henry, albeit she gave him the surname of Carey, her husband's name!.
She more or less lived under the radar after being dismissed from court!.
To bcptm character, why are you in YA if you don't care to answer questions civilly!? This forum was set up to share information, not insult people looking for information!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

People didn't keep records during that time like we do now!. People still debate on the year Anne was born and she's the famous one!.

I have always been interested in English royalty and I recently saw The Other Boleyn Girl and tried to research Mary!. I didn't find much either!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

i'm guessing it is mainly because her sister anne is much more famous!.
after all, mary was just a mistress, even though the book The Other Boleyn Girl and the movie too shows her as a strong, independent woman (yay Mary!)Www@QuestionHome@Com

~To you, perhaps, and perhaps because you never bothered to look!. Even Wikipedia mentions her, with the usual disdain for factual content!. There are actually, dare I say it, BOOKS which deal with her in part and exclusively!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is the HISTORY category!. Ms Boleyn is basically a non entity when it comes to significant history!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
