The great Chinese inventions of papermaking, gunpowder, printing and the compass are four ancient inventions by Chinese people, all came before the Yuan Dynasty!. Paper currency/money also came before then However the Yuan Dynasty invented some types of cannon to exploit the use of gunpowder and also invented other weapons!.

Previous inventions were improved and developed during the Yuan Dynasty, such as in 1298 Wang Zhen improved the movable type printing of Bi Sheng by introducing the first successful wooden type characters; he also experimented with tin metal type characters!.

The use of paper currency was also further developed!.
