~It really doesn't matter!. Unless you've got a time machine, it ain't gonna happen!. The battle was over and done with 132 years ago!.

As to the battlefield and/or the monument, the fact that you are asking indicates you lack sufficient interest to bother!.

Seeing it is meaningful only if you know and understand the background as well as the event!. If you do, it should be a moving experience!. However, to understand it will require some work!. You can't read about it from a single source or multiple sources from a single point of view!.

If you know anything of the event, the players and the background, you should feel some satisfaction at the site that Custer got exactly what he deserved, not only because of his ego, his insubordination, his racism and his insatiable hunger for 'glory' and fame but for his sheer stupidity!. You also have to feel some satisfaction for the Lakota, Cheyenne and Arapaho, although they were unable to close the deal and put the Benteen and Reno contingents away!.

As with any historical site, if you visit just to see the place but have no knowledge or understanding of the history, you're just going to see rocks and grass polluted by markers and monuments!. You should walk the entire area where the engagement occurred, but you won't be able to!. One thing I always found a little perverse and obscene is the fact that a Crow Reservation abuts the site!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah, I thought so!. It's rather moving to see all the scattered headstones showing where all the soldier's bodies were found!.

There is a big cenotaph marking the mass gave for all the soldiers that lists all their names!. I found that rather moving as well!.

I say all this with the utmost respect for the Native Americans who fought and died there as well!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
