I think it is the same reason why every other civilization enslaved some people!. For labor!. What question you should be asking is: do you think that the enslavement of Hebrews in Egypt according to the old testament was done for skilled labor, suppression of monotheism, or for national security!.

I think it was because the Hebrews were getting so powerful and important that the Egyptian Pharaoh enslaved them all so that there would be no rivals or something like that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
