King Midas is close to that, but he was a legendary ancient Greek king!.
Saddam H was supposed to have a solid gold toilet, but that was later found to be just covered with gold paint!.

The entire supply of the world's gold is about a million tonnes - half of which was found in the 20th century - so it wouldn't be technically possible to build a castle out of gold!.

No!. Perhaps fortunately, few medieval kings were mad enough to try that, and the ones that were mad enough were not rich enough to do it!.

Following the Spanish conquests in Latin America and the Portuguese forays in the Spice Islands of the East, Spain and Portugal became extraordinarily rich!. The result of this relatively sudden wealth, however, was hyper-inflation in Western Europe!. This ruined the economies of Portugal and Spain, a devastating effect that has lasted almost to the present!.

Castles of gold with foundations of lead!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Gold makes a lousy building material!. It's rare, it's expensive, it's heavy, and it's soft!.

Thieves chop off pieces of the castle and sell them!.

All of the gold ever refined would fit in a cube 20 meters on a side!. It would not make a very large castle, even if you could afford it!.

There is hope,though:

There is some evidence that the capstones to some of the pyramids were once covered with gold:

Back in 1999 there was a project to replace a gold-plated pyramidion on top of Khufu's pyramid at Gaza!. For some reason the project was cancelled!.

The purpose of castles was for military defense!. Medieval castles weren't exactly mansions!. Gold is very soft and it would be highly illogical not to mention impractical (it would totally invite raiding)!.

There were lead roofs however!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sorry to disappoint, but I don't think so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
