Question: How did WWII lead to conflict in africa!?!?!?!?!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
OK!. First off, the North African campaign!.

Italy had designs on North Africa!. Oil was one incentive, as was the need to conquer and bring back the glory days of the old Roman empire!.

Unfortunately, the Italians botched it and Hitler, in order to save his allie a major loss of face!. He therefore dispatched an expeditionary force to retrieve the situation!. Funnily enough, the Brits didn't want to leave peacefully!.

After the war, with the start of the cold war, the superpowers used africa as an extension of their own conflicts, giving military aid to it's allies, as well as social and economic aid!.

It was because of this policy that the second and third Arab/Israeli wars was possible, since the Arabic forces were extensively supplied by the soviet union!.

Many other African nations benefited from both arms and farming techniques!. Many countries which had enjoyed traditional farming, soon began to try out paddy fields!.

The main instigator though, was the supply of arms to these countries that caused the problems!.

So in short, an ill conceived venture was the main initiator, but the legacy of East/West relations was the cause of most of the post war conflicts!.

First,forget imperialism!.

By the end of WWII all of the European powers lay in ruin;even Great Britain, one of the victors!.They were unable to keep control and empires shrank!.

The USA and USSR(Russia) were the two great powers after the war!. There was a worldwide struggle between "them&us"-communism v!. capitalism!. Both countries were fomenting revolt!.Africa was slipping from colonial power and the USA&USSR stepped in!.

This is way simplified!. Its late and I'm tired!.

Alex is at best half right and drawing connections where they don't exist!. How was Italy,Mussolini really, failing at invading North Africa "too bad"!?

No one has the answer correct!. Well actually, the guy above me just answered and has it partially correct!.

After Italy declared war, and invaded, France in June of 1940, Mussolini(the dictator of Italy) thought it would be best to attack Britain in Africa while they were busy saving their island!. Mussolini ordered and invasion of Egypt(from Lybia, an Italian colony), Sudan, Kenya, and British Somiland(all from Ethiopia, and Italian Colony)!. They had some initial success but were pushed back by the British, and then Germany sent a little bit of help!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it was because so much of Africa was made up at the start of WWII as colonies of the European powers so were dragged in with their colonial masters!. That is why Australia and India were dragged in with Britain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well sin ce they were colonials of many of the countries at war they contracted people to be the war sending many people there to fight in europe after they came back they felt that there place in society was wrong since in the army they were the same and at home they were seen at below them that led to countries after the war to fight for IndependenceWww@QuestionHome@Com

The Germans occupied North Africa and the middle east to keep the allies out of southern Europe for as long as possible!.
