Question: Word War II, I have read some articles online and I seem to be amazed by the germans and all of WWII
Ok, I understand that the Germans were not by themselves ( japan, italy) but i ask myself did germany literaly take over france!.Like did they march down the Eiffel Tower !? And how strong was this German orginazation !? again I know they had help of others but when you take a look at the alies ( USA, BRITIAN, USSR , france, and 12 other countries) I read that GERMANY was very close of taking over all of Europe!. How did they get this strong after WW I!. Was it the soldiers, the strict discipline hitler used, or Germany simply had better equipment ( Guns , bombs, technology )!. also, i saw pictures of churchil, stalin , roosevelt!.!. i dont understrand, wasnt stalin " bad" didnt he execute people!. were they with him just because he was fighting hitler !?!?!?!? and finally did Britain recieve alot of Damage, physicly was alot of its cities destroyed!.!.!. also the bombs little boy and fatman !.!.!. i herd that japan would not surrender !!! That the war there would continue because in japan it was a stallmate!. it was just on going and on going fighting and the only way to stop the war there was to drop those atomic bombs!. As of today does germany still hold this military power ( i know that NAZI GERMANY is never discussed by GERMANS as of today it is a subject that is avioded!.!. 1 teacher told me they dont even include it in their history!. not even muesuems that it is shameful) !.!.!.!.!.!. I hope your answeres are honest and accurate!.!.!.!. i kind of have an idea but i want to get prospectives from other people !.!.!. thanks Www@QuestionHome@Com

the germans had a very successful military strategy called "blitzkrieg" literally, lightening war!. they attacked with everything, planes, troops, tanks, and tons of weaponry and overwhelmed countries like france!.
while stalin was "bad" as you say because he killed millions of people, shipped people off to siberia and starved his country, the Allies DID team up with him because they needed to defeat hitler!. After the meeting in Tehran, Churchill said he'd make a deal with the "devil" to defeat hitler and end the war and "i just have"!. He was calling stalin the devil!. In the end though, the nazis were defeated and so was the ussr so the Allies handled the situation!.
yes, Britain was destroyed after the war and it took a while to pull it all together again!. London especially was in ruins!.
the atomic bombs had to be dropped because the japanese were taught to die rather than surrender so the Allies believed there was no other way to win!.
of course germany wasn't allowed to maintain such strong military power after the war!. germany surrendered and the country was divided into 4 between America, Britain, France and the USSR!. (America, Britain and France unite into a non-communist section!.!.!.part of the cold war)!. the country was in ruins from all the bombings, inflation soared and germany lost its status as a world powerWww@QuestionHome@Com

You are RIGHT!!!! Remember that the victors write the history and teach it!!! If the Germans were as stupid as "hogans heroes" makes them out to be what does that say abot the allies/Soviets who when the Germans got anywhere near even odds got their collective a**** KICKED say!?!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most of that was wrong!.

STFU about the nazi's already u've asked that question twice?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Word War II was a spelling contest between Germany and the rest of the world!. They lost!. Your limited knowledge of World War II prompts me to suggest you read a lot deeper into its history!. For example, the Germans couldn't have marched down the Eiffel Tower, it's a vertical structure, and gravity would have wreaked havoc on them!. The Germans did march down the Champs-élysées!. The Germans did control all of Europe except England, Finland and Switzerland!. Good or bad Stalin was our ally!. War makes strrange bedfellows!. Forget the perspectives of other people, including mine!.!.!. READ, READ, READ!.!.!. the history in its entirity!.!.!.Read The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by journalist William L!. Shirer!. If you are truly interested in this dark era of history!.!.!. READ!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Once I got to talk to a British soldier for a couple days straight - he'd been in WW 2 - up on the beach in the Normandy landing!. He said that if you were going to beat the Germans you had to fight like the devil!. Even in their severely weakened condition they were a horrific enemy!. They're smart and tenacious and quite well armed!.

Figure that we fought Germans only after the Russians got done killing 3/4 or more of their soldiers on the eastern front!. And we still had trouble beating them!.

The moral of the story is: NEVER EVER get involved in a war you don't need to - like we did in Iraq!. It's always bad especially for the kids who've got to fight it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

First of all, it is false that Nazi Germany is never discussed by Germans!. When I went to visit one of my German friends, her sister had to work all week on a huge presentation on Hitler for History class, so I don't know where you got that from!. And Germany does have some museums on this era!. I have seen a memorial of a synagogue that was burnt during the crystal night!.

Second, you are over simplifying WWII, you have to consider the historical context!. Not all Germans approved of what Hitler was doing, but by the time they really realized what was going on, the SS were installed and the repressions were huge!.

As for the invasion of France, you have to keep in mind that the allies were not what they were at the end of the war!. France was taken over in 1940, and the US only entered the war in December of 1941 (after the Pearl HHarborattack)!. Plus, USSR had signed a non aaggressiontreaty in 1939 with the Germans stating that they were NOT to attack each other!. This pact was only broken by Hitler in 1941, so after they has invaded France and failed to invade England (because it is an island)

This also has something to do with war strategies!. The German ddevelopeda whole new strategy called the blitzkrieg (lightning war), as opposed to the static war the French were used to!.

The tensions that opposed the USSR to the US (cold war) started after the end of WWII!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Germany was treated poorly in the Treaty of Versailles, which ended WW1!. When Hitler became Chancellor and began to build up the Army, the other countries – who were nursing their own war wounds, looked the other way!. When he invaded Czechoslovakia and Poland – all the other powers let him thinking that after he did that he would not seek more land, more power if they would just give him this!. They were wrong and he gained strength ideologically and physically from this!.
France, weak from WW1 was easily overtaken!. Britain – London especially was somewhat destroyed by bombings, and each of the 12 Allied countries entered the war at different times!. Had they all entered at once, in the beginning before the Nazi’s gained so much extra territory - they likely would have stopped Germany sooner!.
You see pictures of Stalin, Churchill and Roosevelt because they met at Potsdam, Tehran and other locales to discuss military strategy!. Russia was on our side to defeat the Nazi’s!. But once the war was over, we took strong opposition to the communism that Stalin established in his nation!. There were also some hurt feelings with the way the pacific theatre was handled without Russia’s help!. We were also more than willing to let Russia take Berlin after what the Nazi’s did to them!. --- see more on the Berlin Wall for the after effects of the two countries meeting from West and East in Berlin to defeat the Nazis!.
The Japanese Army was one of fierce fighting – to the death, American GI’s hoped to come home!. After the bloody island hopping in the pacific, America realized the quickest way to win the war without more loss of American military life was to drop the bombs!. They asked for Hirohito’s surrender first, but it did not come --- until after we dropped the bombs!.
I have German friends who visited the US and were a bit unnerved seeing American Flags in many places!. Nationalism is somewhat played down in Germany today due to their tragic and violent past!. If they wanted to, they could likely build another great army – but the rest of the EU and the world would hold it in check much sooner!. I don’t foresee that though!.

Yes the French Relied on a underground Bunker system to stop invasion from Germans, Germans just went around the Idiots, And Captured them in the bunkers, Germans relied on Blitzkrieg Pincher attacks that totally caught the invasion force off guard and they weren't prepared to fight on such short notice so they surrendered, without much of a fight, but they made a mistake when they attacked Russia because that tactic stretched their supply lines too long because Russia is so largeWww@QuestionHome@Com

Wow!.!.!.!.!.you ask a lot of questions, don't you!?

1!. How did Germany get to be strong enough, relative to the Allies, to crush France in 19 days!? The answer is several-fold!.
a!. Germany started re-arming and developing new and better weapons many years before any of the Western powers started to do so!. As a result, they were several years ahead in terms of weapons design and technology at the start of the war!. Hitler spent huge amounts of money (deficit spending), and Germany is well known for its superb engineers!.
b!. Because they expected to go to war, they were able to plan tactics and strategies to overcome the expected obstacles!. Allied countries who didn't expect to go to war, and were generally content to rely on WWI technology and tactics!. This meant that when faced with Blitzkrieg, they were quickly out maneuvered and defeated!.
c!. Hitler loaned a Legion of his troops to Franco in the Spanish Civil War, and thus his pilots and troops had considerably more real-world combat experience at the time of the war!. When Hitler invaded Poland, the French and British declared war, but were scrambling to mobilize their forces and gear up for wartime production rather than fighting, and so Hitler's forces gained even more valuable experience while the Allies were still completely unblooded!.

2!. Stalin, Churchill and Roosevelt - Stalin was certainly NOT a favorite of the British or Americans, but he was (by the time the US came into the war, at least) a fierce enemy of Hitler!. Operating on the principal that "enemy of my enemy is my friend" the US the Britain supplied Stalin with large amounts of equipment and loans so that the Red Army could go on fighting Hitler's forces in Russia!. Far better than having those huge forces turned back against Britain, you know!?

3!. The British did recieve a great deal of damage to several cities, and the losses of life were, at the time, shocking!. Later British and America returned the favor, many times over against German cities!.

4!. Your assessment of why the atom bombs were employed is sound!. The Japanese clearly did not mean to surrender, and the planned invasion of Japan (set to start in November, 1945) would have surely drug the war out for at least another year, and would have cost at the very least, several hundred thousand American lives!.

5!. Actually, although the Holocaust is not often discussed in Germany, there are museums to the era, and all German Army officers are required to study the Nuremberg trials, and are also required to visit a museum dedicated to the German resistance to Hitler, including Stauffenberg, who nearly succeeded in assassinating Hitler in 1944!. There is a good deal of shame associated with the genocide aimed at Jews and gypsies and so on, but there's not as much shame attached to the war itself!. Germany took on the world, and but for Hitler's insane stupidity, might have won!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes the german troops swept through France and marched down the Champs D'ellysaise with little help from the the other axis countries, (hungary, romonia, austria) the allied countries (great britain and France) were litlle prepared for the onslaught!. Germany had been building her armies and air force since 1935 and they wre battle tested in the spanish civil war were new tactics wre developed!. The allied armies were still using the old WWI trench warfare tactics and they did not hvae the tried advancements that Germany had!. Stalin started the war on gerany's side and it was until operation Barbarossa ( the german invasion of the ussr) did Stalin unite with Great Britain and the US> The us did not enter the war until dec 8, 1941 almost 18 months after the fall of France!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
