Question: If King James was supposedly an insane, homosexual conniving king, why do some prefer his version of the Bible!?
I just read some answer, from someone who cited wikipedia about the evil king James!.
this seems odd to me,cause insanity was considered to be caused by evil spirits and homosexuality seems to be a no-no among the Christians!. I was just wondering how someone with his credentials, could write a credible version of the bible for some believers!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

OK, first I'll address your questions, then clear up some of the previous misinformation!.

1) If King James!.!.!.

Well, as mentioned correctly by some, King James authorized that the translation work be done, and as the translation was finished during his reign, it was dedicated to him by its translators!. He (more correctly, his policy maker) provided a few guidelines by which the translators had to abide, but otherwise he had no input in the translation!. Understand: in England at the time, creating a translation of the bible without Church approval was a **capital** offense!. King James, as head of the Church of England, authorized the work!. If he had not, no one would have dared to create a new translation, particularly with so many English translations already legally available!. *IF* (and it *is* an if) King James was gay, that bible does not reflect this!. It condemns homosexual behavior in the strongest terms, both in the Old and New Testaments!.

2) About the King James Version (KJV) - corrections to above statements
a) it was *not* the first English translation
b) it was *not* the first authorized translation
c) it was *never* formally authorized for use by the Anglican church (only the translation work was authorized)!. In contrast, two previous English bible translations *were* formally authorized by the Anglican Church, and one (the English Revised Version) was authorized afterward, in the 1800s!.

SO, King James' sexual habits have nothing to do with that translation of the bible, nor do they have any bearing when considering if the KJV is a worthy bible!.

I don't know that he was considered insane, though he does seem to have been bisexual!. However, the translation of the Bible that is called The King James version was not actually translated by him, but by a number of scholars who made the translation on the King's orders!.

It is not true that 'countless' women were burned as witches during his reign (as a comment above suggests)!. The 1580s-1620s was the peak period for witch trials, but that was general throughout Europe, not just in england, moreover not all those accused of witchcraft were women, and not all those who were accused were condemned!. Witchcraft was actually quite a difficult charge to prove, and for that reason courts were reluctant to try suspected witches, and juries were reluctant to bring ina guilty verdict!. Overall, about 50% of those tried for witchcraft were acquitted!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

He didn't write it himself!. He commissioned others to do it for him!. It became the preferred version mostly because it was the first time the bible was published in English rather than Latin!. As for him being insane and homosexual, I did not know that but it's perfectly possible!. There is a percentage of the population who is homosexuall and as for insanity, the royal families in Europe often intermarried, cousins marrying cousins, so many ailments, including insanity were quite common, as was syphillis which could also cause insanity!. People felt that they line of kings and queens was ordained by God and did not question the lineage!. Often when a monarch was insane the people around him did their best to hide this fact and run the country themselves as best they could!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

He didn't write the Bible dude!.!.!. seriously!. He commissioned a panel of scholars to do it for him!. Which is why that Bible is preferred by someone!. The other Bible of the time was the common Vulgate which was simply copied into Latin by the monastic clergy and early church fathers!. Latin remained important to Christian worship until the period known as the Reformation, when Christians demanded Bibles to be written in more common tongues!. One of the Bibles written for this purpose was the KJV!. While it has many anachronisms and unnecessary editorials in its margins like the Vulgate, it is widely believed by worshipers and scholars alike that this was amongst the first copies of the Bible that demanded literary, contextual, and linguistic accuracy of its writers!. It is this difference that makes it favored amongst non-Latin/non-Catholic believers!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

James Vl and l (the " wisest fool in Christendom ) was married to Anne of Denmark !. He had a succesful reign in Scotland prior to becoming the first king of Britrain !. He certainly was not evil - misguided perhaps !. Well educated he had to navigate through a difficult period and conflict with his nobles in the Scottish court and contend with being always " hard up " !. His writings against witchcraft saw a period when countles women , old and young were burned as witches despite a general lack of evidence !. His sexual proclivities have been well documentated but James survived in a period when treachery and two face activities prevailed !. Methinks he did well not to survive in a hostile environment
